Who Can Join Carsharing?

Greater Forest Lawn Community Carsharing is available to any individuals and families who live in the communities of Greater Forest Lawn. These communities are:

• Albert Park
• Radisson Heights
• Fonda
• Forest Heights
• Penbrooke
• Applewood
• Southview
• Forest Lawn
• Dover
• Dover Glen
• West Dover
• Erin Woods
• Mayland Heights
• Marlborough
• Marlborough Park
• Franklin
• Abbeydale
  

Community agencies or organizations located in these neighbourhoods (or who serve residents there), as well as local businesses may also become members.

Membership guidelines – individuals & families

A person is eligible to apply for membership in Greater Forest Lawn Community Carsharing if he or she meets the following criteria:

1. A resident of a community in Greater Forest Lawn 
2. Has a valid Alberta Driver’s License
3. Over 21 years of age

Drivers between 18 and 21 years of age may be able to join GFL Community Carsharing if they have a valid Alberta Driver’s License and a Driver Education Certificate from an Alberta agency.

1. Has been driving in Canada for at least three years

Residents who have recently immigrated to Canada may be able to join GFL Community Carsharing if they have a valid Alberta Driver’s License in addition to an acceptable driving record in another country and/or a Driver Education Certificate from an Alberta training agency.

1. Has a driving record (drivers abstract) with no major accidents in the past three years; this means accidents where you were “at fault”.
2. Has received fewer than four traffic tickets in the past three years (e.g. speeding, going through a red light)
3. Has not had a DUI (driving under the influence; drunk driving) in the past five years

Membership guidelines – community groups & organizations

An organization or group is eligible to join Greater Forest Lawn Community Carsharing if it meets the following criteria:

1. The organization is located in Greater Forest Lawn
2. The organization is located outside of Greater Forest Lawn BUT operates significant programming in the communities of Greater Forest Lawn and/or serves a significant number of clients from the Greater Forest Lawn area.
3. Authorized drivers appointed by the organization meet individual member criteria.

A non-profit organization may apply for a one-time grant to cover the cost of the Member Deposit required to join Greater Forest Lawn Community Carsharing. Grants are awarded based on financial need and are subject to the amount of grant funds available each year.

I’d like to join – what do I do now?

Step 1
Click on the link here for membership application (insert link here). It includes a consent form that allows us to apply for a copy of your driver’s abstract or driving record. Fill these forms out and send them by e-mail. Or print and fill them out by hand, then drop them off at our office.

Step 2
Click on the link above for Policy Manual and read it over. It is quite long but don’t worry, we will go over the important parts with you.

Step 3
Click on the link above for Membership Agreements. Pick the one that applies to you (individual, family or group) and read it over. It’s a legal document so it may seem a bit complicated but we will go over it with you before you sign it.

Step 4
When we get the forms, we will check your driving record and make sure you are eligible to become a member of carsharing. Then we’ll call you to set a time for you to come in finish the membership application process in person.

Or you can just call us! We’ll set a time for you to come in and go over the documents with us. We can answer any questions you have and help you fill out the forms.
